When you’re worried it’s all been done before and you don’t have anything original to bring to the table… 💡⁠


I’ve always said my cookbooks aren’t the definitive guide to other nation’s cuisines – they’re my take on it, an outsider’s perspective. I share what I’ve discovered about the food and culture and lifestyle, how I’ve made dishes my own, and how I cook them for my family and friends.⁠

And the funny thing is, although I mainly write for an UK audience, my cookbooks have been translated into their ‘home’ languages.⁠

The Little Paris Kitchen got translated into French, even though there are thousands of books on classic French cuisine, because people were curious about how la petite anglaise (‘little English woman’) might put a twist on things.⁠

And Swedes aren’t running out of cookbooks about Swedish food. But I guarantee there aren’t many written by a Brit with Austrian-Malaysian heritage who’s lived in London, Bavaria, and Paris and now calls Stockholm home.⁠

Ideas can be copied, and there’s always someone with more knowledge or experience, but your unique blend can only come from you: your background, past experience, connections and creative path 💡⁠
