My Stockholm home renovation {AD}
Come take a sneaky peek behind the Archive by Sanderson Design curtains at my bedroom and bathroom renovation.
👀
I had a bit of an interiors space conundrum of how to keep 2 bedrooms and a family bathroom but add a shower room, a walk in wardrobe and a bed for granny to sleep on when she visits.
🤔
It took 3 years of living in the house, my design degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and some help of House of Design Sweden to come up with a plan that would give us the functional spaces a busy family life needs.
💰
Some interior money saving tips:
▪️ We saved money by using off the shelf self assemble kitchen cabinetry but splashing out on the handles.
▪️ Get the boutique hotel bathroom feel but without the price tag, by using a regular (or even second hand) bathtub and conceal it with a marble top trimming.
▪️ We kept the previous toilets. Always double check you can't reuse items.
▪️ A cheap mirror accessorised with beautiful lights is a way to save money but still get an expensive look
▪️ Soft fabrics like linen shower curtains and blinds can make bathroom and shower spaces look more cosy.
▪️ Don't be afraid of colour in small spaces. In our case using a dark green Morrocan plaster gave the shower room a more luxurious feel.
▪️ Conceal an ugly bedframe with a linen skirt.
▪️ Family bunk beds with beautiful linen turn a kids room into an inviting guest room for the occasional grandma visit (just need to tidy all those toys away).

Master bedroom
I find dark colours very relaxing in the bedroom but wanted to break up that with a light Springlike pattern on the blinds. The French linen makes the bed soft and inviting but also covers up a very ugly bed frame.

Walk in wardrobe
The floor to ceiling curtains add drama especially as the fabric is a heavy velvet. It also acts as a great way to cover up the chaos in the walk in wardrobe (the Ikea PAX system was used).

Master bathroom
A sea of pink calmness in this small bathroom. Marble bathtub trim and sink surface combined with the brass tap ware and handles elevate the design. Essential storage in the form of modified black wood Ikea kitchen cabinetry make it both functional and stylish. With all the hand surfaces the addition of the fabric blind softens the space.

Shower room
Despite the tiny space I wanted the shower room to have a luxurious spa feel. This was achieved with a beautiful Morrocan plaster finish (waterproof and breathable) and details like a linen shower curtain.

Kids room
The kids room needs to function as a guest room for grandma visits so retaining a certain playfulness but still being chic was the mission. The blinds pattern and colour way add the fun element while the beautiful scalloped bedlinen give the functional family bunkbed a little luxury.
