Paris for vegetarians

Paris truly is a slice of heaven for foodies. With its mouthwatering and authentic French cuisine, its modern bistro-style fair and its sensational produce, Paris consistently lives up to its reputation as a gourmet hotspot. One slight hiccup – food in France traditionally relies on meat as the main component of many meals. However, vegetarians fear not – for Paris is (somewhat slowly) really lifting its act when it comes to catering for vegetarians.

Whilst not a vegetarian myself, here are some of my favourite vegetarian friendly spots:

Bob’s Juice Bar 15, rue Lucien Sampaix 75010 09 50 06 36 18 Monday to Friday 8am to 3pm Revitalising juices, freshly made salad, homemade muffins and cookies, New York-style bagels and a fun vibe.

Verjus Restaurant and Wine Bar 47, rue Montpensier 75001 01 42 97 54 40 Restaurant: Monday to Friday 7pm–10pm, Wine Bar: Monday to Friday 6pm–11pm Braden and Laura happily accommodate for vegetarians and pescatarians with notice when the reservations are made – and Verjus also consistently has vegetarian and vegan items on its wine bar menu.

Nanashi Opening hours and location details here. Why not try Le Bento Parisien? The vegetarian bento boxes here are a treat.

Super-nature 12, rue de Trevise 75009 01 47 70 21 03 Lunch during the week, and brunch on Sunday (bookings recommended). Sweet potato chips, tofu cheeseburgers and tomato gazpacho ... Super-Nature is a (vege) foodie's paradise.

Soya 20, rue de la Pierre Levée  75011 Paris 01 48 06 33 02 Opening hours here. From tofu to tempeh, satiate your cravings for something healthy and tasty at Soya in the 11th arrondissement.

My tips? Remember to keep an eye out for meat making its way into almost all of the salads in France – it's a staple ingredient! Chèvre (goat's cheese) salad is usually the safest bet. And of course, Paris is home to some of Europe’s most popular little kebabs shops, so those craving a vege and felael feast might like to check out kebab spots on rue des Rosiers in Le Marais.

Try these websites for some handy online resources when dining with vegetarians in paris.

Bon appétit!

P.S. What vegetarian blogs do you follow? One of my current favourites is My New Roots, especially Sarah’s regular feature 'Meatless Mondays with Martha Stewart'.
